Ingredients:
Ingredients:
2 cups whole bran cereal (All Bran)
2 cups buttermilk (no substitue)
2 cups flour
2 tsp. baking soda
1 cup sugar
4 Tbl. mild molasses
1 tsp. salt
1 cup raisins or chopped dates
1 cup chopped walnuts
5 empty 16 oz metal cans

Directions:
Directions:
Have the cans washed and dried. Spray interiors with Pam and lightly dust with flour; tap out excess. Heat oven to 350º with rack in lower middle of oven.
In a large mixing bowl, combine the bran cereal and buttermilk. Let stand a few minutes to soften.
In another bowl combine the flour, baking soda and salt. Stir into the bran mixture and add sugar, molasses, raisins and nuts. Stir well. Dough will be quite stiff. Spoon batter into the 5 cans, filling each no more than halfway. Place cans directly on oven rack and bake for 30-40 minutes.
Cool 5 minutes and remove bread from cans by inverting and tapping. IF the breads do not slide out, run knife around sides and if all else fails, open the other end and slide it out. Cool before slicing.

Personal Notes:
This is very much like the bread that Grandma used to serve on Friday nights along with beans and hot dogs--first had it at their house.
This is good with cream cheese, apple butter or chutney, lemon curd or marmalade. Also good browned a little on top and add butter!!
