5 cups sifted flour (sift before measuring)
1 lb white sugar
1 cup brown sugar
8 eggs
3 sticks butter
3 tsp nutmeg
1 tsp baking powder
1lb shelled pecans
1/2 lb dates
1/2 lb golden raisins
1/2 lb candied pineapple
1 lb candied cherries
1 pint whiskey

Mix candied fruit and shelled nuts in a large mixing bowl. Pour in 1 pint of whiskey. Cover bowl and let sit for at least 8 hours.
Mix cake ingredients according to any cake recipe. Pour off excess whiskey and add fruit to the batter. Add two Tbs. of excess whiskey to the batter. Batter will be very, very thick, you will need to incorporate the fruit with your clean hands.
Divide batter between two tube pans lined with parchment paper and greased.
Bake in a 250º oven for three hours. Test for with toothpick before removing from the oven.

This is a recipe that my Mother got from her
Aunt Myrtle. This is the fruit cake that everyone(those who like fruitcake) used to beg my Mom for at Christmas time.
