1 10-oz. jar maraschino cherries
1-3/4 c. all purpose flour
1-1/2 t. baking powder
1/2 t. baking soda
1/2 t. salt
1/3 c. butter or margarine, softened
2/3 c. firmly packed light brown sugar
2 eggs
1 cup mashed, ripe banana
2/3 c. chopped walnuts

Directions:
Directions:
Drain maraschino cherries, reserving 2 T. juice. Cut cherries in quarters; set aside.
Combine flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt; set aside.
In bowl with electric mixer at medium speed, blend butter or margarine, sugar, eggs, and reserved juice until thoroughly combined. Add flower mixture and mashed banana alternately, beginning and ending with flour mixture. Stir in cherries and walnuts. Spread batter evenly in lightly greased 9 x 5 x 3-inch baking pan.
Bake at 350º for 1 hour or until golden brown and wooden pick inserted near center comes out clean. Remove from pan and cool on wire rack.
