1 cup butter
3 cups boiling water
1 pkge cherry jello
2 cups mixed fruit(500 grams)
1 cup chopped dates
1 cup candied cherries(chopped)
2 cups raisins
4 cups flour
1/2 cup brown sugar
2 tsps cloves
2 tsps cinnamon
2 tsp allspice
1 T soda
2 cups chopped walnuts

Directions:

Dissolve jello in boiling water. Add fruit and dry ingredients. Mix well. Add walnuts and mix again. Grease and line bread or Christmas cake pans with parchment paper. Bake in 325º oven 3 hours. Watch closely after 2 hours so it does not burn. When done, remove from oven, let cool, invert, remove paper, drizzle rum or brandy over cakes, wrap tightly and age for about a month. May be iced with an almond paste icing if desired.
