2 1/2 cups sugar
1/2 cup corn syrup
2 egg whites
1 tablespoon vanilla
1/3 cup water
dash of salt
1/2 cup walnuts, coarsely chopped

Directions:
Directions:
Beat egg whites until stiff while liquid is cooking. Cook sugar, syrup, salt and water until it forms a soft ball when dropped in cold water (235 to 240 degrees). Take out 1/2 cup of the mixture and cook the rest until it forms a hard ball (250 to 265 degrees on candy thermometer). Slowly pour this on egg whites.

Beat constantly, then gradually add the remainder of the liquid. Add nuts and vanilla and keep beating until mixture becomes heavy.

Use a spoon to make dollops onto a buttered pan. Let cool.
