Fresh asparagus spears, washed and snapped
Olive oil
Salt
Freshly ground black pepper, or coarse ground pepper

Asparagus will naturally snap at the proper length for cooking. Wash and snap asparagus spears. Brush with olive oil, and season with salt and pepper. Line up spears in a single later on a heavy jelly roll pan or rimmed baking sheet. Place sheet on rack about 4 in. from the top heating element. Broil until tender and browned in some spots, about 8-10 minutes. Shake pan once about halfway through the cooking to rotate spears. This method works best with thin asparagus spears. Thick ones will burn before cooking all the way. Delicious and easy!
