Ingredients:
Ingredients:
1-2 pounds stew meat
Large yam cut in pieces
2 potatoes cut in pieces
3 carrots, sliced
1 large onion, in pieces
3 celery stalks, sliced
1 large can tomato sauce
1 cup water
1 beef stock cube

Directions:
Directions:
1. Most people brown the meat pieces on each side in a little oil. I don’t often bother.
2. Combine all ingredients in large heavy pot. Bring to boil, simmer, covered for 2-4 hours. Or cook in 350 degree oven. Tougher cuts of meat need longer cooking times. Works well in slow cooker.
3. Thicken with corn starch mixed with a little cold water if desired.

Personal Notes:
Personal Notes:
Any other vegetables you want, eg cabbage, parsnips, turnips, green beans, mushrooms, peas
Spices to taste, eg bay leaf, 1 tsp oregano, garlic, salt, pepper (plus 1 tbsp curry if making curry)
