1/2 cup butter
1/2 cup milk
1 pkg quick rise yeast (not Fermipan)
1/2 cup lukewarm water
1 cup raisins
3 1/2 - 4 cups sifted flour
1/4 cup sugar
1 tsp. salt
1 egg (slightly beaten)
1 tsp powdered cardamom
1/4 cup orange peel
1/4 cup snipped candied cherries
Sugar egg white mixture for glaze

Make early in the day. In saucepan heat butter with milk until butter is just melted. Cool to lukewarm. In 3 qt. mixing bowl, sprinkle yeast into warm water. Let rise 5 minutes. Stir in sugar, salt, egg, cardamom, raisins, peel and cherries. Gradually stir in flour, beating well after each addition. Cover and let rise until double in bulk (1 1/2 - 2 hours). Turn dough on floured board and knead and shape into laves. Let rise until doubled. Bake 350ºF for 45 minutes.
