1c. sugar
1/2c. mixed butter and shortening(1/4/1/4)
1 egg beaten
1/2c. molasses
2c. sifted flour
1-1/2t. ground ginger
1/2t. salt
1c. hot water
SAUCE:
1 egg
1c. sugar
1/4c. butter
1t. vanilla
1-1/2c. whipping cream

Cream shortening and butter with sugar
Add eggs and molasses and beat well
Sift together all dry ingredients and stir in
Add hot water last and mix well
The batter will be very fluid
Pour into a greased 9 x 13 baking pan and bake in a 350 degree oven for 35-40 minutes or until cake tester comes out clean. When cool, cut in squares and serve with gingerbread sauce or a dollop of whipped cream. Sauce: Beat eggs in large bowl until lemony. Gradually add sugar beating until thickened 2-3- mins. Stir in melted butter and vanilla. Gently fold in whipped cream. Chill for 1 hour before serving.
