1 C. all purpose flour
1 C. quick cooking rolled oats
3/4 C. brown sugar
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/4 tsp. salt
3/4 C. margarine melted
1 C. chocolate bits
1/2 C. chopped walnuts
3/4 C. caramel ice cream topping (Smuckers)
3 Tbsp. flour

Directions:

Preheat oven to 350º
Combine in a large bowl to form crumbs, 1 C. flour, quick cooking rolled oats, brown sugar, salt, baking soda and melted margarine.
Press half the crumbs into a 9 inch square pan and bake at 350º for 10 minutes.
Sprinkle the chocolate chips and nuts over the baked crust.
Mix the caramel topping with the 3 Tblsp. flour, then drizzle over the chocolate and nuts.
Sprinkle the rest of the crumbs over the top and bake for 15 to 20 minutes more.
Chill bars for easy cutting.

We double this recipe and put in our 9 x 13 inch cake pan, but use the same cooking time.
Also, for some odd reason, these bars taste better if you freeze them first then thaw out. (Cut them into your squares first before you freeze)
