1 TSP SODA
1 CUP CUT UP DATES
1 ½ CUPS BOILING WATER
1 ½ CUPS WHITE OR BROWN SUGAR/ DIVIDED
2 TBSP BUTTER
2 EGGS, BEATEN
1 ½ CUPS FLOUR
¼ TSP SALT
1 CUP NUTS, CHOPPED
1/3 CUP CHOCOLATE CHIPS

COMBINE THE SODA WITH THE DATES, POUR THE BOILING WATER OVER THE DATES. LET COOL.
MIX TOGETHER: 1 CUP SUGAR AND 2 TBSP BUTTER.
ADD THE BEATEN EGGS AND MIX WELL. STIR IN THE DATE MIXTURE, FLOUR AND SALT.
POUR INTO A GREASED 9 X 13 INCH CAKE PAN. SPRINKLE THE OTHER ½ CUP SUGAR, NUTS AND CHOCOLATE CHIPS ON TOP OF BATTER.
BAKE AT 350 DEGREES FOR 30 TO 35 MINUTES. DOESN’T NEED FROSTING
