Ingredients:
Ingredients:
1/2 lb. butter, softened
1/2 cup sugar
2 cups plain flour
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. vanilla
1 tsp. cream of tarter

Directions:
Directions:
Mix all dry ingredients together. Stir in butter and vanilla. Roll into balls about the size of an English walnut. Place balls on ungreased cookie sheet and mash them flat with a fork dipped in flour (to keep dough from sticking). As an option for the holidays, sprinkle cookies with red and green candy sprinkles before placing them in the oven.

Bake in 400˚ oven about 10 minutes, or just until light golden brown. I have found that the time needed for browning varies a lot depending upon the oven. Watch them carefully because they can become too brown in a hurry!

Personal Notes:
I always double the recipe. These cookies are so good that a single batch won't last long!
