2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
2 teaspoons baking soda
½ teaspoon cloves
½ teaspoon allspice
½ teaspoon cinnamon
¼ teaspoon ginger
¾ cup softened butter or margarine
1 cup sugar
1 egg
¼ cup light molasses
Confectioners sugar for sprinkling

Directions:
Directions:
Sift flour with baking soda, cloves, allspice, cinnamon and ginger
on sheet of waxed paper. In medium bowl, with electric mixer,
beat butter, sugar, and egg until light and fluffy. With wooden
spoon, beat in flour mixture alternately with molasses; beat well
after each addition. Refrigerate dough covered for one hour. Preheat
oven to 375 degrees. Lightly grease cookie sheet. Shape
dough into 1 inch balls. Roll in confectioners' sugar. Place on
cookie sheet 1 inch apart. Bake 8-10 minutes. Remove to rack;
sprinkle with confectioners' sugar while still warm.
