Directions:Pre-heat oven to 250 degrees
Cream butter, sugar and vanilla. Mix in salt and flour well. Shape into small balls and bake for 15 minutes or until browned. Roll in powdered sugar while warm and again when cooled. Store in airtight container. Will make many dozens, though will depend on how small or big you roll. We like smaller ones so we can just pop them into our mouths when no one is watching! |

Notes: This cookie recipe has been in my family for many years, my mom made them every year at Christmas time. I am not sure where the name came from as they are known as many different names. One year my mom made about six dozen cookies and placed them in boxes and in the back room where it was cooler. We live in Michigan and wintertime, so not sure how much 'cooler' it could get. One day my youngest sister came to my parents home with her boyfriend and his dog. The dog was a Doberman Pinscher, which to me was a mini horse. The dog was walking around the house, no one paid any attention as to where he went. It was a while and all of a sudden he walked back into the kitchen full of 'white powder' all over his face. They wondered what it was when all of a sudden my mom knew........the 'Greek Cookies!' They ran to the back room to see what he did and sure enough he had a feast!! He ate about four dozen of the cookies and sure made a mess. Needless to say, she never let the dog back in the house!! It makes for a funny story today, though it wasn't too funny when it happened. My family makes these cookies into small ones so they are 'one biters' and no one knows you have eaten one until they see the 'white powder' on your shirt!!! Maybe not so much powdered sugar next time!!!
