2 lbs Frozen French-cut Green Beans
8 slices bacon
6 T. brown sugar
3/4 c. cider vinegar
1/2 c. chopped onions (if desired)
1 tsp. salt
1/2 t. black pepper

Directions:
Directions:
Chop bacon in small pieces and fry until crisp. Remove bacon from pan and drain on paper towel, leaving bacon grease in pan. Add brown sugar, onions and vinegar to the grease in the pan. Heat until onions are soft. Add salt and pepper. Let stand.

Place green beans in pot and cover with water. Boil until tender. Drain and add beans to bacon mixture. Let stand for 30 minutes or so to absorb the flavor. Reheat and serve.

This recipe was handed down to me by my mother, Marie Bier, who got it from her mother, Gertrude Heid.

I always include it in my Thanksgiving Menu. My oldest son, Edgar, used to always request it. It's just as good without onions.
