Cake;
1 c. raisins and 2 c. water in pan. Boil until there is 1 c. juice, then drain and cool.
Mix in a bowl 1 egg, 1 c. brown sugar, 1 heaping tbsp. shortening, 1 tsp. soda in juice, 2 c. flour, 1 tsp. baking powder. Add raisins.

Icing
1/4 c. butter, 1/2 c. brown sugar, 2 tbsp. milk, 1 c. sifted icing sugar. Melt butter in saucepan. Stir in brown sugar. Boil and stir over low heat 2 minutes. Stir in milk and bring to a boil stirring constantly. Cool to lukewarm. Gradually stir in enough icing sugar to make of spreading consistency.

Bake cake at 325º F in 8 inch round layer pans. Cool.
