1 cup Buttermilk
1 ea Egg
1 tsp Salt
1 tbsp Sugar
1-1/2 tbsp Shortening
½ cup Flour (about)
1 cup Cornmeal
¼ tsp Baking soda

Directions:
Directions:
Preheat oven to 475 degrees. Have the pan with grease in it and make sure the pan is hot enough to sizzle when you pour the batter into the pan. Some people use the over and others use the stove top burners. Mix cornmeal, flour, salt, oil, egg and ¾ cup milk. Beat until smooth. Next beat the soda into the remaining ¼ cup of milk. Stir into the batter. Pour into the hot pan and bake until brown (15 to 20 min). You can add 1 tbsp Vinegar to 1 cup fresh milk for a substitute for buttermilk.
