1 lb ground chuck
2 onions very thinly sliced-1 tsp salt for onions
salt and pepper to taste
Toasted buns

Put the onions in a bowl and sprinkle with salt
Let stand for 1 hour and squeeze dry
Shape hamburger into 4 even balls
Mound the onion into 4 mounds and place the hamburger patties on top and smash so the onions are covered with the onions.
Place the patties onion side down and cook on medium heat for 5 min.
Turn up heat to med-high and flip the burgers and cook 3 minutes
They are traditionally served with dill pickle and mustard
