2 sticks soft butter
2 c sugar
5 egg yolks
2 c flour
1/2 c chopped pecans or walnuts
5 eggs whites, whipped to peak
1 tsp baking soda
1 c buttermilk
1 tsp vanilla
2-3 oz coconut

Directions:
Directions:
Cream butter and sugar well. Beat in egg yolks well. Add flour and soda a little at a time alternately with buttermilk. Stir in vanilla, nuts, and coconut. Fold in egg whites. Grease and flour and line with wax paper 3 - 8 or 9 inch layers. Bake at 350 for 25 mi utes. Cool in pan 5-8 minutes and then remove and cool on racks.
Frosting:
Blend together 1 - 8 oz cream cheese softened, 1/2 stick soft butter, 1-1/2 to 2 cups powdered sugar, and 1 tsp vanilla. Garnish top of cake with nuts and coconut if desired.
