Ingredients: Let’s be real: No one wants to cook a whole turkey on Thanksgiving, let alone make one that’ll be ready in time for brunch (don’t even think about what wee hour that bird would have to go into the oven). Instead, embrace the breakfast of it all and make DIY sausage. Essentially mini turkey sliders with a killer seasoning blend and a bit of sweet apple, these sausage patties will be the sleeper hit of your Friendsgiving meal. Make extras to stash in the freezer to breakfasts to come.
Ingredients 1 pound lean ground turkey 1 small Granny Smith apple, peeled and minced 2 teaspoons maple syrup 1 teaspoon dried red pepper flakes 1 teaspoon dried rubbed sage 1 teaspoon kosher salt 1 teaspoon dried thyme ½ teaspoon dried fennel seed, crushed ½ teaspoon garlic powder ½ teaspoon onion powder ½ teaspoon ground black pepper Pinch cayenne pepper Grapeseed or canola oil, for frying

Directions:How to Make It Step 1 Stir together all ingredients except for the ground turkey, maple syrup, and apple in a small bowl.
Step 2 Line a baking sheet with foil or parchment paper and set aside.
Step 3 In a large bowl, break up the ground turkey a bit, then pour in the seasoning mixture and apple. Use your hands (wearing gloves if you’d prefer) to combine the mixture.
Step 4 Divide the mixture into eighths, then form into patties about 2 ½-inches wide. Place patties on the prepared baking sheet, cover with plastic wrap, and refrigerate for 30 minutes.
Step 5 When you’re ready to cook the sausage, heat a splash of oil in a nonstick or cast iron pan over medium heat. Fry sausages for 3-4 minutes per side, or until sausage is no longer pink inside. |
