1 C. butter, softened
1 egg
¾ C. granulated sugar
¾ C. packed brown sugar
2 ¼ C. all purpose flour
1 tsp. baking soda
½ tsp. salt
1 (12 oz) package of semi-sweet chocolate chips ( can substitute minis, milk chocolate, peanut butter or butterscotch chips.)
1 cup nuts coarsely chopped (optional)

Directions:
Directions:
Heat oven to 375º F. Mix together butter, sugars and egg. Stir in flour, baking soda, and salt (dough will be stiff.) Stir in nuts (optional) and chocolate chips. Drop dough by rounded teaspoonfuls about 2” apart onto ungreased cookie sheet. Bake until light brown, about 8-10 minutes. (Centers will be soft. Let the finish baking on sheet as cookies are cooling.) After cookies are cooled, remove from baking sheet. Yields approximately 6 dozen (about 90 calories per cookie).

Make them into bars: Press dough into sprayed 9x13. Bake until golden brown, about 25 minutes. Cool completely. Cut into bars.
