"As I ate the oysters with their strong taste of the sea and their faint metallic taste that the cold white wine washed away, leaving only the sea taste and the succulent texture, and as I drank their cold liquid from each shell and washed it down with the crisp taste of the wine, I lost the empty feeling and began to be happy, and to make plans."--Ernest Hemingway

1. Prep chocolate smoothie: Remove pits from half of the dates (reserve remaining half for second smoothie recipe) and coarsely chop. Place dates, 2 tablespoons of the cocoa powder (save rest for own use), 1⁄4 cup of the oats, and 1⁄2 cup hot water in a blender. Let sit for 5 minutes. Meanwhile, peel pears, cut into quarters, and remove cores and stems.
