1 (14 oz)can petite tomatoes, diced including juice
1 C Progresso puree crushed tomatoes
1/4 C yellow onions, finely diced
2 green onions, finely chopped
1 T canned jalapenos, seeded and chopped
2 fresh serrano chiles, seeded and minced
2 tsp fresh lime juice
1/4 tsp ground cumin
1/4 tsp Mexican dried oregano, crumbled
1/4 tsp salt
1/4 C fresh cilantro leaves, chopped


Directions:

Mix all ingredients and blend in food processor for 1 minute. Serve with tortilla chips.

Can substitute 2 C fresh tomatoes for canned petite tomatoes

Recipe appeared in the Santa Ana Register in the early 70’s. El Torito is a famous Mexican restaurant in Southern California where we lived. The recipe uses canned tomatoes and is very good.
